What Is Peek Material
Peek Material Profile
PEEK is one of the slowest-growing special engineering plastics, and it is expensive. It was successfully developed and commercialized by British ICI company in 1981. PEEK is a semi-crystalline polymer with excellent comprehensive properties. It can be used as a substitute for metal materials in most occasions. It is mainly used in aerospace, military equipment, nuclear power, medical equipment, electronic semiconductors and other fields. |
PEEK is expensive. Generally, domestic PEEK costs several hundred yuan per kilogram, and imported PEEK exceeds one thousand yuan per kilogram. The cost of PEEK is inseparable from its outstanding performance. Compared with other resin materials, PEEK has excellent performance in high temperature resistance, mechanical properties, stability, corrosion resistance, aging resistance, and processing performance. The main properties are as follows:
1.High Temperature Resistance
PEEK is one of the existing heat-resistant thermoplastic materials. Its melting point is 343 ° C. The long-term use temperature of the UL certification in the United States is 260 ° C. Even when the temperature reaches 300 ° C, it can still maintain excellent mechanical properties. PEEK thermal deformation temperature is 135 ~ 160 ℃, 20% glass fiber reinforced PEEK thermal deformation temperature is 286 ℃, 30% glass fiber reinforced 300 ℃.
2.Heat Resistant
PEEK has outstanding thermal aging performance. The following figure shows the performance retention rate of VICTREX450G after 200 ℃ and 310 ℃ thermal aging. Even if it is thermally aged for 10,000 hours in 200 ℃ steam, the tensile strength, quality and appearance of PEEK will not occur Significant change.
3.Good Mechanical Performance
PEEK has excellent mechanical properties and is a tough and rigid material in all resins. PEEK has high rigidity, and its strength and fatigue resistance are comparable to some metals and alloy materials. PEEK can maintain high strength even at high temperatures. The bending strength at 200 ° C can reach 24MPa, and the bending strength and compression at 250 ° C The strength can reach 12 ~ 13 MPa, and it is specially suitable for manufacturing components that work continuously under high temperature.
PEEK has a small linear expansion coefficient (close to metallic aluminum) and good dimensional stability. In addition, PEEK also has good creep resistance, can withstand great stress during use, and will not cause significant extension due to time.
4.Abrasion Resistance And Smoothness
PEEK resin itself has excellent self-lubrication and abrasion resistance. The coefficient of friction of the resin after filling can be reduced to 0.15, and the wear amount is extremely low. It can achieve oil-free lubrication work under many harsh environments such as high temperature, high load and high speed. use. PEEK polymer and its composite materials have wear resistance and are excellent bearing materials.
5.Chemical Resistance
In addition to the corrosion of strong oxidizing acids such as concentrated sulfuric acid, PEEK is resistant to almost any chemical, and it can maintain good chemical stability even at higher temperatures.
6.Resistant To Hydrolysis
PEEK has good hydrolysis resistance, and the saturated water absorption at 23 ℃ is only 0.5%. Among all engineering plastics, PEEK has good hot water resistance and steam resistance. It can be used for a long time in 200 ℃ steam, or short-term in 300 ℃ high pressure steam.
7.Electrical Insulation
PEEK resin is an ideal electrical insulator. It can still maintain good electrical insulation performance under severe working conditions such as high temperature, high pressure and high humidity. Usually, its volume resistivity can reach 10 to 16-16 Ω · cm, dielectric constant 3.2 ~ 3.3F / m, dielectric loss 0.0016 at 1kHz, breakdown voltage 17Kv, and arc resistance 175V.
8.Good Processability
PEEK has high thermal decomposition temperature and good fluidity at high temperature, so it has good machining performance. It can be machining peek in various ways: injection molding, extrusion molding, compression molding, blow molding, melt spinning, rotary molding, powder coating etc.,
9.Resistant To Radiation
PEEK has a strong resistance to gamma radiation, exceeding polystyrene in general resins. For example, high-performance wires made of PEEK resin can maintain good insulation when the gamma radiation dose reaches 1100Mrad ability.
10.Flame retardance, low smoke
PEEK has excellent flame retardancy and self-extinguishing properties. Without any additives, the flammability rating of PEEK samples with a thickness of 1.45 为 is UL94V-0; Class V. Even when burning, the amount of smoke and the amount of toxic gas produced is extremely small, much lower than other resin types.
